Participants will explore the rich symbolism deeply rooted in Palestinian culture and discover how these symbols became powerful tools of resistance and resilience, particularly during the 1970s and 80s. In this hands-on workshop, they will be introduced to traditional Palestinian symbols, such as the anemone and the watermelon, and will have the opportunity to crochet these symbols and take home their own handmade creation.
This workshop is part of the Cultural Creativity Series at the Tett Centre for Creativity & Learning, which aims to foster cultural learning through artistic creation. Participants will explore various art forms from different cultures, learning about each culture's unique expressions, history, and context.

About the Instructor
Currently a PhD student in Screen Cultures and Curatorial Studies, Faten Mitwasi is an artist dedicated to fostering cultural appreciation and acceptance both within her community and globally. She employs a range of mediums, from handicrafts and digital photography to video, to create her site-specific installations. From an early age, Faten has been focused on the documentation, historiography, and presentation of Palestinian art. She has conducted extensive research in this field, authored several articles and three books, and curated various exhibitions and art projects. www.fatennastas.com
